Our careers programme runs throughout every learner’s journey, from your first day with us to the day you progress onto the salon floor, self-employment or further training. We follow the Gatsby Benchmarks of good career guidance, ensuring every learner receives high-quality, personalised career development and support.

Every learner at JET takes part in a comprehensive careers programme that’s embedded throughout our training. Through academy sessions, one to one guidance and real world experience, we help you build the skills and confidence needed for long-term success. Our careers education includes:
Meet Our Careers Team
Our dedicated Careers Team is here to support you at every stage of your journey. Whether you need help exploring your next steps, finding additional qualifications or planning your long-term career goals, the team is always available to provide impartial, personalised guidance.
- Learners can access the Careers Team at any time during their training for advice or support.
- The team also sends quarterly careers guidance emails to all learners, sharing up to date and impartial careers information, opportunities and inspiration from inside and outside the hair and barbering industry.
This ongoing guidance ensures that every learner feels informed, supported and confident in planning their future.
Meeting Gatsby Benchmarks
We help learners understand current and future opportunities in the hair and barbering industry. We regularly share updates about career trends, job demand and emerging roles. Both in the academy and in The Collective Magazine.
Every learner is treated as an individual. You’ll have your own Individual Learning Plan, regular progress reviews and personalised support to help you achieve your goals. Our educators know every learners specific needs, delivering one to one support and adapting teaching and guidance to suit your ambitions.
Everything we teach connects to your future career. You’ll see how your technical skills, creativity and professional development all translate into real salon success. Sessions on self employment, social media, starting a business and client management prepare you for life after training.
You’ll meet and work alongside employers throughout your apprenticeship. We host events such as the JET Live Competition and Awards Night, where industry professionals, salon owners and employers celebrate learner talent. Many of our learners also take part in community initiatives such as JET Hair for Heroes, events and fundraisers for our charity partner Basildon Mind.
As an apprentice, you’ll gain hands on experience in your salon or barbershop workplace. You’ll also have the opportunity to take part in events and work on clients in our academy salon, helping you build confidence and professionalism.
We support your journey beyond your current qualification. Learners are encouraged to progress onto Level 3 advanced courses, take tailored courses provided at JET hairdressing academy to develop in specific areas, complete assessors and teaching awards, alongside volunteer opportunists to join the education team at JET.
You will be allocated a one to one educator who will guide you through your time with us. They will carry out regular reviews ensuring your path is running smooth and you have clarity on your learning journey with us. You will revive one to one support from our learning support team and careers team who will not only ensure you have all the support needed to achieve your goals but you have the guidance needed for a successful and rewarding careers.
